In what would be devastating news to the Chicago Bears, It’s being reported by the Chicago Sun-Times that Jay Cutler broke his thumb in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game versus the Chargers. It could have happened on an interception return where Cutler was going for the tackle.
Neither Jay Cutler or Lovie Smith mentioned it after the game.
I’m sure they want to do some more tests before giving the truth out. And since the injury reports don’t have to be revealed till Tuesday or Wed I believe, it may be a couple of days before we get the whole story.
At the very least, it looks like Cutler did something to his throwing hand. If the initial timetable is correct, we might be talking the rest of the regular season and possibly more.
I don’t like to see anyone get injured but this could help my Lions in their bid to make the playoffs.
If you were desperate, I mean desperate, I would go get Caleb Hanie. He would be the new starter in Chicago if Cutler misses any time.
