Joe Webb… Super Flex Start?

16 12 2010

Thanks Frog, whom brought this to my attention!

Joe Webb, who came in for Tarvaris Jackson against the Giants on Monday Night could very well be the starter this week if Favre and Jackson are ruled out. Joe is 6’4″ and was drafted with the intent of being used as a WR but since he was a QB in college many sites (including Yahoo) list him as a QB,WR combo. Interesting fact, he turned in the third highest rushing total for a QB in NCAA history as a senior year at UAB. You can read more about him at Wikipedia. His numbers at the UAB Pro Day are sick. Fascinating, if you are desperate for a WR and you don’t want to roll the dice on Anthony Armstrong or Jabar Gaffney. Maybe take a shot with Webb. If he starts, he could wind up with some decent statistics from the QB position in your WR spot. I would take that any day.

Of course this requires you to stay on top of his and the others practice habits for the week. Monitor them carefully if you plan to use Webb in week 15. Also, just pick him up just to show the other teams in your league you are on the cutting edge of fantasy knowledge.

UPDATE 12:09pm: According to ESPN Rumors, Tarvaris Jackson might be heading to IR later today. Giving Webb a greater chance to start.

UPDATE 2:33pm: It is official, the Vikings put Jackson on IR and I watched Favre on NFL Network Live giving a press conference. He does not look ready to play this game or any game. He just sounds defeated. I bet he stays on, just to mentor Webb. Patrick Ramsey was also signed to backup Webb.

Being from Alabama, I’ve had the opportunity to watch this former UAB star play some ball and let me tell you, he is one heck of a football player. Very interesting take on him, unfortunately, in the ESPN world, he’s just a QB.

Speaking of QBs, I’ve got a very close call at QB. Josh Freeman v Det or Matt Schaub @ Ten? I like the way Houston tossed the ball around and with Daniels back, just another weapon, and Tenn isn’t the Tenn of old, but still not bad. I think Schaub probably has more upside…potential for a big game like last week. Freeman is probably more of a safe play…get my 15 points and be happy, but the matchup is tempting,,,and it’s in TB. I’d really appreciate your take.

Rob, you are spot on. Freeman has been a very consistent QB this year getting around 15-20 points a game. And Schaub has the potential of getting that many points with just Andre Johnson! I would play Schaub just on his potential to go huge but Freeman is the safer play.

Mike Williams (sea) is a start over Roy Williams (dal) ?I’m assuming..If Joe webb looks more sure to start maybe I’ll put him in that spot. Man you think Roy should have some great games coming up but it’s hard to trust him. Just seems like the Cowboys do whatever they can to not include him much in the offense..

I say yes, but there are a lot of people on the Roy E. Williams bandwagon for this game. I can’t trust that guy, especially being a Lions fan. Although come to think of it, Mike Williams was one of the biggest busts of all time for the Lions.

Oh and Vernon Davis or Jacob Tamme?

Gosh, I love Tamme and Davis this week. No TE has been better in the last two games than Davis. The one thing I have going against Tamme, is the possibility of Austin Collie coming back this week. So I say go with Davis. He’s been too good in two straight games.

That’s what I was thinking and thank you for confirming it for me..
